The 2023 BMW X1 xDrive28i immediately rewards the enthusiast driver with a sense of control and connection rare in its class. Steering feels precise with just the right amount of weight, allowing for confident inputs whether maneuvering through city streets or sweeping highway bends.

Drivers who prioritize engagement and response will appreciate how the SUV transforms daily commutes into genuinely enjoyable drives. The X1 offers a driving experience that makes even routine trips feel special, from its tactile sport steering wheel to its intuitive controls. In areas with unpredictable rain like Lakeland, FL, the all-wheel drive and rain-sensing wipers provide added assurance and keep the focus on the road ahead. For those who notice the subtleties of suspension tuning and road feedback, the X1 stands out among compact luxury crossovers.

The 2.0L 4-Cylinder DOHC 16V TwinPower Turbo engine delivers smooth, linear thrust that responds eagerly to throttle inputs, making merging and overtaking effortless. The automatic transmission shifts promptly, with a manual mode that allows the driver to take charge of gear changes for a more involved experience. The four-wheel independent suspension strikes a balance between comfort and control, filtering out harshness without muting road feel. Braking is reassuringly strong, with a natural pedal feel that invites confident stops from any speed. Every input—throttle, steering, or brake—elicits a crisp, predictable response that keeps the driver engaged and in command.

Safety systems on this SUV are engineered to enhance driver confidence without numbing feedback. Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control step in subtly when limits are approached, helping maintain composure through sudden maneuvers or inclement weather. The rearview camera and parking sensors improve situational awareness during tight parking situations, while lane-keeping and automatic emergency braking intervene only when necessary, never overriding driver intent. The result is a suite of active safety features that supports, rather than intrudes upon, the driving experience.

The Convenience Package amplifies day-to-day usability with Comfort Access Keyless Entry and a panoramic moonroof that brightens the Alcantara/Sensatec-trimmed cabin. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel ensure year-round comfort, while the dual-zone automatic climate control maintains the perfect environment. Apple CarPlay Compatibility and the Connected Package Pro keep navigation and entertainment seamless, and the power liftgate adds practicality for busy hands. Ambient lighting in the Black High Gloss Trim subtly enhances the premium interior vibe, making every journey feel elevated.

Among luxury crossovers, the X1 distinguishes itself with driving dynamics that feel more communicative and rewarding than those of competitors like the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA 250.

How does the X1 feel on long drives? The cabin remains impressively quiet, isolating road and wind noise for a tranquil experience. Are selectable drive modes available? Yes, drivers can tailor the powertrain and steering response to suit their mood, from relaxed cruising to a more spirited setting. Is the interior comfortable for daily commuting? Power-adjustable heated front seats and dual-zone climate control keep fatigue at bay.
